JM in the AM Stream Update
|
|
14 September, 2006
|
Updates & Problems:
All is well with the launch of JM24, Nachum's 24 hour webcast! We have just successfully completed a stream upgrade to JM24.
Some listeners using AOL media player have had trouble connecting to the stream. If you are an AOL listener having troubles, please follow the directions below titled Problems with streams using AOL Media player or AOL's browser.
Listeners that use the Real or Windows Media player who once were able to connect but now cannot listen may need to use the alternative streams. On the left hand side of this page, try clicking on the Real Player Alternative Stream or the Windows Player Alternative Stream.
All JM in the AM programs
are now available after their broadcast as broadband, stereo MP3 archives,
in addition to mono realaudio archives. MP3 archives are only
available for two weeks, while the realaudio archives stay up longer. Keep
up with recent program and fill-in archives on our Archives
Page.
If you are having problems with our streams or archives, please be sure
to notify
the WFMU Stream
Team. When you write, please specify which stream or archive you
are
having trouble with. Please include the address of the page that you are
trying to launch the stream or archive from, and also let us know the
name and version of the audio player you are using.
Archives
Almost every single JM in the AM program is
available on demand, 24 hours a day, in the Realaudio and MP3 formats. (We
do not archive any programs in the Windows Media Player format, although
Windows Media Player can play our broadband MP3 archives.)
Check
out our archive page to get a full listing of
all available archives.
The Basics - To hear JM in the AM in Realaudio or Windows Media Player:
Our live Realaudio stream is
here.
Our live Windows stream is
here.
Our live Broadband Windows stream is here.
If you ever need to upgrade or reinstall Realplayer (and who doesn't), might
we strongly suggest the
free version of Realplayer 8,
which can be downloaded for free
here. (Please note that the Windows 95 version of Realplayer
8 works with all later versions of Windows.)
If you need to download the free Windows Media Player, click here.
The Basics - To hear JM in the AM in Streaming MP3:
Our basic MP3 stream is for
people with 56k
modems or better, and our broadband MP3 stream is
for people with DSL, cable modems or T1 service.
In order to listen to our MP3 streams and archives, you will need a
current version of Realplayer or winamp or
iTunes 4 for
Macs using OSX or ITunes Classic for Macs using OS 9.x.
If all else fails, try pasting the following addresses for either stream into the "open
location" window of Realplayer, Windows Media Player or Winamp (these addresses are new as of September 2006, and
they're for our MP3 streams only):
Alternate Broadband MP3 stream:
http://www.wfmu.org/jm128k.m3u
Alternate Basic MP3 stream: http://www.wfmu.org/jm32k.m3u
If you still cannot connect after pasting these two addresses above in
your player, then you may be behind a firewall that restricts your
access.
Problems with streams using AOL Media player or AOL's browser
Some listeners have complained that they cannot access the stream in AOL's media player or within AOL's browser. If you are having trouble with either of these conditions then please advise-- You may need to listen to the JM stream in a browser other than AOL. Please try launching the stream in Internet Explorer or Mozilla Firefox.
The directions below should help reset your media settings so that you can listen to the JM stream using an alternate player. Here is the error that usually accompanies failure on AOL.
Network Error: the file could not be played. Check to be sure you are still connected to the AOL service.
This error may be seen if there are problems streaming audio through AOL's media player. You can work around the error by disabling the AOL media player:
-- In AOL, goto Keyword: Preferences
-- Select Multimedia Settings
-- Uncheck Use AOL media player for supported file types and press OK
-- Repeat the steps to open the Stream. When you Select a Preferred Player, select either Real Player or Windows Media Player.
